Facebook Terms Of Use 4 Feb 2009
What you don't read will hurt you. Let's FACE it, how many of you actually read the massive social networking site's TERMS & CONDITIONS?
Facebook released their their latest revised terms on 4th February 2009. Suddenly everything that ONCE belonged to you - NO LONGER DOES!
“You hereby grant Facebook an irrevocable, perpetual, non-exclusive, transferable, fully paid, worldwide license (with the right to sublicense) to (a) use, copy, publish, stream, store, retain, publicly perform or display, transmit, scan, reformat, modify, edit, frame, translate, excerpt, adapt, create derivative works and distribute (through multiple tiers), any User Content you (i) Post on or in connection with the Facebook Service or the promotion thereof subject only to your privacy settings or (ii) enable a user to Post, including by offering a Share Link on your website and (b) to use your name, likeness and image for any purpose, including commercial or advertising, each of (a) and (b) on or in connection with the Facebook Service or the promotion thereof.”

Doesn’t make any sense? Mashable puts it well:
“In short, all of the content you’ve ever uploaded on Facebook can be used, modified or even sublicensed by Facebook in every possible way - even if you quit the service.”

Sure, go ahead now to delete away your account and content online. But archived copies of your User Content still belongs to them!

Just DISTURBING! Just how many of you have your entire life uploaded in Facebook? I'm glad I've only been the face of an avatar...

17 February Update: Facebook's CEO, Mark Zuckerberg backtracks under community pressure, goes back to old ToS (For Now)

  1. one main reason I have declined ALL requests from such social networking sites to join.

I knew about this innocuous piece of detail in their terms of contract though it wasn't too apparent in their intention then...
