Who would have believed me if I told them that one of my childhood playgrounds was Labrador Park. That was a long time ago, when the Fairways Kids would be sprinting across the walkways along the sea, annoying the hell out of love birds trying to have a moment of peace and serenity. Then there were also those stationary bouncing cars at the corner of the deserted carpark that I wouldn’t mention too much about…

The park had over the years received a facelift, but thankfully with its remote locale up a darn hill, the general ambience remains decently good. Unlike East Coast or Pasir Ris Park, overcrowded with nerve screaming kids and unbearable techno blasting stereos. Labrador was surprising enjoyable for a night out and BBQ with a bunch of MTB folks who were celebrating the successfully Kent Ridge Mountain Bike Race last month. Cool breezes, the sound of waves crashing along the shores, great food, pretty cruise ships drifting by, nice (strange?) conversations… Plus it’s always nice to know it’s a public holiday tomorrow!
