Every now and then I update my GoodReads book account. I update the status of my reading progress, write a review of the latest book I've completed and mark out new and exciting books to read in the pipeline. I had a little time this afternoon while waiting for the Leadership Speaker Series to start and whipped out my iPad to check into the portal.
This spurred on a conversation with my colleague looking on and we shared good reading recommendation. Then she asked, "If you could only take 2 books with you, which 2 will it be?"
My instant reply was quite naturally WHY ONLY 2 books! In which she replied, "Okay, you can choose 5!"
A strangely interesting question, which got me scanning my book list in my mind. Despite the digital age, I am still quite a physical book person. Still like the feeling of flipping real pages... The 1st few books were simple...
1) Bible
2) Journal (in my VeggieTales book cover)
3) Photo Album of my parents
and then I paused... and followed on with
4) The Five People You Meet in Heaven by Mitch Albom
5) Love and responsibility by Karol Wojtyła before he became Pope John Paul II
One of the choices my colleague picked was The Last Lecture by Randy Pausch. I never read the book but some time last year I caught the YouTube sensation of Pausch delivering his "Last Lecture" at the Carnegie Mellon University. What was supposed to be a recording feed for university fellows to catch the lecture online interested millions of people over the internet. The Last Lecture was dedicated to Pausch's children as he was terminally ill. He eventually died of pancreatic cancer on July 25th, 2008.
Randy Pausch was an incredible and inspiring teacher. The last months of his life, and I can only imagine how it could have been, he chose Joy; which made all the difference.

Do not tell people how to live their lives. Just tell them stories. And they will figure out how those stories apply to them.- The Last Lecture by Randy Pausch is a heart-breaking yet heart-warming book. It made me contemplate the real value of my life .
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed watching his "The last lecture", which was extremely touching, but reading this book was even more touching. I actually teared up many times while reading it.
ReplyDeleteThis was a great book with a lot of heart touching points insights. The best part in this that is it guided me to think about my own life and the things I value and have experienced. And most of all, it gives motivation to live life more fully.
