Okay...I admit, I am a sucker for easy sing along ballads with catchy tunes and lyrics that rhyme. That was what I thought until the Michael Learns to Rock (MLTR) private performance. Standing right up to the stage with an unobstructed view of the performers, I realized I did have a low tolerance for ridiculous lyrics. I felt bad taking up such a prime spot while the hardcore fans of the Danish pop/soft rock band sang at the top of their lungs just behind me.

But hey, I'm not complaining. I don't love MLTR's music, but I don't hate them. I respect that singer-keyboardist Jascha Richter and his 90s band, kept true to their mellow music roots that appealed so much to the Asian communities in Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore and the Philippines. MLTR sold millions of records in their most popular albums, Colours (1993) and Played on Pepper (1995). They never made it very big in the East which says a lot about the music taste in the West. So much so that MLTR released their 6th album Take Me to Your Heart focused on the Asian market. The single "Take Me to Your Heart" was a remake of Jacky Cheung's "Goodbye Kiss" ("吻别"), which was hugely popular in China and Hong Kong. Incredibly smart move cause 1% of China's population buying your record will already make you tens of millions... easy peasy...

Concert started with "Sleeping Child" which was definite crowd pleaser.

Michael Learns To Rock (MLTR) - The Actor
I'm not an actor I'm not a star
And I don't even have my own car
But I'm hoping so much you'll stay
That you will love me anyway
The equation:
Not Star + No Car = No Date = No Hope = Life is over

"Wild Women" was probably the most rock MLTR ever got... To me, this was the best song of the night.
